Y'all know I'm a bit addicted to Facebook. Well, I'm loving the new app "My Year in Statuses" and one of my friends just informed me that you can see every one of your statuses over the past year, so I've cut and pasted them here.
I don't expect anyone to care about or read this post (if you do, you have more interest in my life then I do). This is just for posterity ... because, you know, future generations will want to know what I was making in the crockpot or how long it took me to get home from work.

Happy Easter to everyone who is celebrating today!
My latest blog post is linked on CNN's page. No lie.
Just finished writing a blog post about Harry Kalas. Email me if you want me to send you the link.
has the house ALL TO HERSELF TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!
Just came back from a nice evening walk around the neighborhood ... it's a beautiful evening out there.
Nice to be back home. Not enough sleep last night nor caffeine in the world for the family stress with my grandfather this morning. Maybe a little nap before the Girl Scout meeting tonight?
Happy Earth Day! This became a global event in 1990. I think a few of you on here might remember the fun that was Earth Day 1990.
Back from the conference - always great to see former colleagues and friends and meet new contacts.
Odds are that the tooth fairy will be making an appearance tonight. Betty has a very loose bottom tooth. This will be her 3rd lost tooth. Boo still hasn't lost any. :(
knows 3 people who are celebrating birthdays today. Happy Birthday to my brother, The Dean's cousin, and my cousin.
Thinking about heading to the beach tomorrow.
As a child who NEVER watched a Saturday morning cartoon in her life, I'm making up for lost time. Watching "Phineas & Ferb" with the kids. This show is hilarious. (But won't make me a cartoon convert anytime soon.)
What's the matter with people who seem to feel the need to make you always feel about two inches tall?
"Phineas & Ferb" ... hands down, the most brilliantly written show on TV.
Lightning strike hit our house yesterday (no damage, thank God) but zapped wireless access, all cable, landline phone, security alarm, the motor for the garage door, and partial electric. 24 hours later, we're back online. Serious withdrawal, people.
Just realized I've taken 69,000 photos with my camera since getting it 3 years ago. The husband thinks 22,000 pictures each year is a tad excessive. I beg to differ.
For those of you who are mothers ... cherish today. For those of you still on your journey towards motherhood or missing a special mother ... a wish for comfort and peace.
Planning to stimulate the economy today by potentially purchasing a new car for the husband. Goodbye to two years of no car payments ... :(
Bought a new car today. Goodbye, Neon. Hello, 72 months of car payments. At least the economy has been stimulated.
is grateful for her husband, who let her go back to sleep for 4 hours this morning. Feeling much more rested than at 5 a.m. when her son awakened her.
Congratulating my friend and her husband on their new baby boy! (For those who attended our wedding 100 years ago, she was my maid of honor.)
Watching my first Phillies game on TV since Harry Kalas. Not the same. Never will be.
is exhausted after a long, but nice, afternoon in PA. Went to our friends' daughters' (6-year old twins) birthday party and then over to Washington Crossing to show our kids where George crossed the Delaware.
is planning on going strawberry picking today with her daughter. (The boys in this house are less than enthused.)
says there is nothing like the taste of strawberries you've just picked from the farm. The supermarket ones simply do not compare.
thinks that she is missing that part of her brain that is supposed to care about Jon & Kate and their 8, American Idle, Dancing with People You've Never Heard of, Nobody's Got Talent, The Bachelor/ette, and any other reality show clone.
Very upset daughter this evening - classmate told her that he will be bringing a knife to school tomorrow because she wouldn't let him have a turn on the swings. She is afraid he will stab her. These are 7 year olds, people. Seven. Year. Olds.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words, thoughts, and concern for Betty. All is well, everyone is fine, long story but basically just a miscommunication/misunderstanding of the 7-year old sort ... thanks again for the good thoughts, everyone.
So proud of both kids for getting awards at school today - Betty for "Excellent Writing" and Boo for "Perfect Attendance." Will upload photos soon.
Just got tickets for tonight's baseball game. It's Fireworks Night! Kids loved this last year.
Slighty nervous as I have to drive the husband's new car to work tomorrow. I never even test drove it! Mine is going back in the shop. I know this comes as a shock to all.
The good news: looks like Melissa needs a new car. The bad news: looks like Melissa needs a new car. I must have missed Obama's press conference announcing that the auto industry will be bailed out by us. Nobody else is crazy enough to buy two cars in one month.
Working late tonight ...
is mourning a mentor this morning. Sandy, you are deeply and truly missed.
Bought myself a new car yesterday! All by myself. It is a burgundy/maroon-ish Chevrolet HHR. Not my dream car, but it works for functionality and more importantly, price. I pick it up on Monday and will post photos then.
Oh, one more thing: With this new car, I've entered the modern automobile age with power windows and locks! And a CD player!
How is it possible for it to be my kids' last day of 1st grade when I still can remember MY last day of 1st grade?
thinks it's funny that, while trying out the GPS feature in her new car, "Where the Streets Have No Name" by U2 was playing on the radio.
Hoping everyone is safe from the storms this morning and this evening (we've seen some nasty weather today). Still lightning here ...
has been married 5,844 days as of today.
I feel so official with my new FB username. How did I ever exist before without a username?
had a busy afternoon with her daughter - birthday party at Chuck E Cheese and then a walk around the Zoo en route home. 'Twas feeding time, so an excellent time to stop by.
Thinking that it might be an earlier-than-usual bedtime tonight for me ...
Oh my word, is that the ... SUN???
Any suggestions for nice "date night" restaurant for tomorrow night? Inlaws offered to babysit so we could go out for our anniversary.
The grandparents are here and still willing to babysit their grandchildren tonight while we have a grown-up dinner out.
Anyone watching the Phillies game right now? Who's that woman in the dugout next to Ryan Mattson???!! What's she doing there???
Doorbell just rang - it was one of my kids' friends from down the street, asking if they could come out to play. It's 8:40 p.m. and my kids are in bed. WTH? This kid is always outside and often shows up at ridiculous hours.
Thank you, all (coworkers, friends, family) for your condolences on the passing of my grandfather today. Your thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated.
Pieces of my childhood are gone ... my grandfather, Farrah, and now Michael Jackson ... none of these deaths seem quite real.
Absolutely exhausted, am on the 2nd day of a migraine, but cannot tear myself away from the Michael Jackson coverage.
is wondering which celebrity is going to die today.
has the best husband EVER. He let me sleep in until 9:30 this morning! I can't remember the last time I slept that long.
says its been a long day (we had my grandfather's funeral), but in an odd way, it was really nice seeing some relatives again who we hadn't seen for way too long ....
really dislikes the show "Sonny With a Chance."
cannot believe one of the Jonas Brothers is getting married. I thought they were all 16 years old or something.
is watching "This is America, Charlie Brown" and the segment "The Birth of a Constitution" with the kids.
says the Tooth Fairy was kind enough to interrupt her holiday weekend to make an unexpected appearance in our house last night. (Betty apparently had a loose tooth that we weren't aware of. It fell out in the pool yesterday.)
will be deaf by the end of the day. Betty is listening to Radio Disney's "Planet Premiere" of the Hannah Montana Season 3 soundtrack - with the Jonas Bros, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez and of course, the HM cast.
is grateful to everyone still on vacation this week. My commute to and from work is so much easier! :)
is thanking her coworkers for a WONDERFUL staff picnic today! Could we have had a more perfect day?! Perfect weather, beautiful setting, awesome people, scrumptious food ... simply the best, all of it. Thanks all!
has heard "Thriller" about 5 times this morning. Oh, and I've only been awake for little more than an hour.
How is it possible that the weekend can be so long and so short at the same time?
Mom-Mom is here babysitting ... going out with husband and his coworkers tonight for fresh crabs on the dock ... it's all good.
wonders if there's anyone else who sees the humor in this:the one library book I cannot find is "Your Brain." (It's one of Boo's. He's into anatomy this summer.)
is taking both kids to the Philadelphia Zoo for the day. I don't think I've been there since the 4th grade.
thinks she needs to give up chocolate, for good this time. It seems to trigger too many migraines for me.
BlogHer '10 location just announced ... it's in New York! I'm so there.
Thunderstorm rolling in.
Quote from the daughter just now: "What are budget cuts?" And who says Phineas & Ferb isn't educational? (It's a line from the episode we're watching as I type.)
My husband is the best ... he's told me to go ahead and register for BlogHer 2010 Aug 6-7 in New York City. (To my boss: is it too early to put in for a vacation day a year in advance? :)
Awesome beach day today. Read two books in two days. Great dinner tonight, with the exception of guy at next table talking about transvestite fish.
Oh ... my ... word. Author Lily Koppel ("The Red Leather Diary") has quoted MY BLOG POST FROM SUNDAY on her blog. I am beyond speechless. Wow.
is homeward bound. I wish I was(n't) homeward bound. It's been a great week.
Been doing our own version of "Extreme Makeover" here - decluttering/tossing out crap for 3+ hours now, in anticipation of furniture (inherited from grandfather's apt) coming shortly. Very grateful to my brother, my SIL, my niece, my mom and brother's friend for moving everything for us.
Really needs to cast a spell in order to get the theme song from "Wizards of Waverly Place" out of her head. Fair warning: if you hear me singing "everything is not what it seems ... " you'll know why.
is not feeling well ... am somewhat feverish. Maybe an earlier bedtime than usual tonight and some Airborne or vitamins. Ugh.
is looking forward to seeing friends for dinner on Friday!
Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles, and Philly are three of the 4 top trending topics on Twitter right now.
I think I have read more about the Eagles today than I have in my entire 40 years on this earth.
Today, kids are in a parade. Will post pics later ...
Anyone care to take a guess as to what was 19 years ago today? (Think Phillies ...)
Oh, how cool is this ... "Maria Shriver has requested to follow you on Twitter." I know it's an auto-follow and I am only the 83,364th follower of hers, but I love this.
Mad Men Season 3 Premiere tonight!
Quote of the day (or night): "Coincidences are spiritual puns." - Gilbert K. Chesterton. (Have no idea who the hell he is, but I like his quote.)
needed a laugh right now ... and got it by glancing over at her son on the laptop, checking out the website for "Hardball with Chris Matthews."
Would love to get some thoughts from her teacher friends ... especially those who teach in inclusional classrooms/special ed.
Just learned that my blog has been nominated for a Book Blogger Appreciation Week Award. Holy freakin' cow!!! ! Major roller-coaster of emotions here tonight.
Congratulating my friend who just had a nearly 10 lb. baby boy! You rock! Best wishes to all!
has spent every night this week looking at cats online with her daughter. Methinks we will be adopting one (or starting the process to adopt one) this weekend. Planning to visit the Humane Society tomorrow.
Almost embarrassed to write this ... the blog has garnered a second nomination (in a different category) in the Book Blogger Appreciation Week Awards that I'm involved in. So now I'm up for Best New Blog and Best Writing.
announces that we've adopted a new cat! Her name is Mrs. Douglas, she's 1.5 years old, and we met her today at the Humane Association. We'll be picking her up tomorrow.
Mrs. Douglas is home. So far, so good. Seems like a sweet cat, but very shy. Hopefully she'll come out of her shell (and the bathtub) soon. (We have her downstairs.)
Who says black cats are bad luck? Since getting Mrs. Douglas (our new black cat), I've avoided being in two car accidents AND I just won a $25 gift card to The Children's Place. I'm speaking with Mrs. Douglas now about a small matter known as the Powerball and early retirement ....
has a date with the dentist's drill tomorrow morning. Obsessing about what I think is an abcess.
How do you know you're a blogger? When you find yourself writing that day's blog post in your head while undergoing a 2-hour root canal.
has reached her limit with the guys arguing right outside her office window. How they haven't been arrested yet (not to mention the language they're using) is beyond my comprehension. Trying to look at this as fodder for some future writing project ...
Somehow, this was among the recent search terms that landed someone on my blog: "eating fb, breathing fb ... living just like fb." Do you think someone is trying to tell me I'm on FB too much?
Our new cat is taking me back to the early days of new parenthood when my kids had their days and nights confused ... Mrs. Douglas is quite the nocturnal creature. Any thoughts on how to make this feline understand that people (especially yours truly) generally like to sleep between 1 - 4 a.m.?
Six words you will never hear me say: "We are expecting our 19th child." - as spoken by Michelle Duggar on the Today show this morning.
My laptop doesn't want to work this Labor Day weekend. (Or, conversely, it's a workaholic because the Windows won't close and it refuses to shut down.) Suggestions from my techie friends? (A new one is not in the budget.)
Laptop is back up and running! Seems like it needed an afternoon siesta. I know how it feels ....
Beyond thrilled to see the new Rachel Simon book at the library this afternoon! A new Lorrie Moore AND a new Rachel Simon in the same week ... my literary life can't get any better than that.
Beautiful day today at Milburn Orchards with Betty!
Does anyone know if it is true that the Fan Check photos thing on here really does have a virus?
For my PA/DE/NJ friends ... if I hosted a wonderful, amazing, funny, local author at my house for dinner and book discussion (this status update will come as news to my husband), would you want to come? I would need 12 people and you'd all need to have bought and preferably read the book ("Building a Home with My Husband: A Journey Through the Renovation of Love" by author Rachel Simon)
Watching Obama's speech with my 7-year old son.
is very glad that she is not Rep. Joe Wilson's (SC) Communications Director. Joe Wilson = Official Presidential Heckler.
Boo just lost his first tooth!
Always remember ... never forget.
For the 2nd night in a row, the tooth fairy is coming! (She needs a loan.) Boo just lost his 2nd tooth!
Lights, camera, action ... my son landed the role of Gaston in a children's theater production of "Beauty and the Beast Jr."
Watching the Eagles with the husband, catching up with blogs, and writing some posts for the week ahead.
R.I.P Patrick Swayze ... co-star of my favorite movie of all time ("Ghost")
had a GREAT day at the Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women. Suze Orman was keynote speaker ... she rocked the house! Love her.
Busy day today: Boo's acting lessons; Town Fair to celebrate the opening of a brand new park/playground (a long time in the making); then kids are going to a roller-skating b-day party.
Starting to feel achy from the fall I took at the roller-skating rink this afternoon. (Yes, you read that correctly.) It isn't 1981 anymore. But at least I got good photos. :)
Um ... is it me, or is it just slightly bizarre to be getting Friend Suggestions of people who are YOUR KIDS' TEACHERS??! No thank you.
Working a little later than usual tonight ... looking forward to seeing my mom when I'm done.
Love my mom's new house ... looking forward to seeing the garden (the property borders a nursery) and goldenfinches tomorrow morning.
Taking bets on how many RVs/campers will be accompanying me down 95 on my afternoon commute home tomorrow, during what is undoubtedly going to be a 3+ hour drive home. My guess is a number in the 3-digits. Any takers?
Suze Orman (yes, THAT Suze Orman!) sent me a Tweet about my blog!!! How unbelievably cool is that??!!! (Love her!)
Blogging this morning about Banned Books Week (Sept 26-Oct 3) and the banned books I've read to my kids (Shel Silverstein's "A Light in the Attic", "Where the Sidewalk Ends" and Maurice Sendak's "In the Night Kitchen.")
thinks the Seattle Seahawks have the ugliest football uniforms I have ever seen. They are beyond hideous.
is feeling appreciative for all she has tonight. One of those days at work that reminds me of why I do what I do.
Never a good thing when you are calling the pediatrician at 11 p.m. ... thought we were headed to Christiana. (Little man had a nosebleed that would not stop, no matter what. All is fine, for now ...)
Some wise relationship advice from Boo, age 7: "Don't ever trust a ladie with a rose," and "If you like a girl and she hates you back, just give it like 5 or 6 days to relax. Then by the 7th, you'll be happily ever after."
Wishing our cousin a very happy birthday tomorrow! Can't believe you're 18 ... I still remember getting the call that you had been born.
Special hugs to my cousin ... not sure if you will see this but I am so, so glad you are OK. Love you!
Happy Birthday, John and Sean Lennon ...
Back from the farmers market with a bounty of caught-between-two-seasons goodness. Rome and honeycrisp apples, broccoli, blackberry pie, pound cake, pumpkin cream cheese, pumpkins and gourds, red seedless grapes, tomato pie, green beans, fresh cranberry beans, and hoagies for dinner.
Watching the classic "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" with the daughter and husband ... still hilarious decades later. Nothing says Halloween like this show. Timeless.
Congratulating my college friend who was just crowned Mrs. New Jersey 2010!
Loving listening to my son quiz my husband on the American Presidents' terms of office, political parties, vice presidents, wives maiden names, etc.
Breaking news! The PHILLIES are on TV in our house!!!!! (The daughter asked to watch the game.)
cannot tear myself away from this story about the 6-year old Colorado boy and the balloon ... unbelievable.
So glad the balloon boy has been found alive!
Forget the balloon boy story - the real breaking news is that the Phillies game is on again! A warm fire, baseball in October ... doesn't get better than this.
Should I turn off the Phillies? The Yankees fan is asleep, so it is just me and the cat watching, but maybe having it on in this house is bad karma?
PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IBANEZ BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NLCS = Now Lidge Can Save C'mon Phillies ..................
Whooo hooo! Way to go Phils!!!!!!!! Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!
All baseball, all night long ... first Phils, then Yankees.
Aw, jeez ... :(
Perfect weather for the crockpot to cook dinner. Simmering away is Black Bean and Brown Rice Chili. Will be having this as tortilla filling or on top of mashed potatoes later tonight - maybe with some cornbread, too.
Let's go Yankees!!!
Cooking macaroni and cheese in the crockpot for dinner tonight!
Am kind of stunned ... I have now made two highly accomplished, published multiple-times, award-winning authors cry (in a good way, they both say) with my reviews I've written of their books. Wow.
Even I could umpire this Yankees-Angels game better than these bozos. Honestly, people.
is watching the '76 Stanley Cup Finals - Flyers vs. Canadians.
is watching the Phillies. By herself, of course. (And all of her FB Friends.)
Lookin' good, boys ... looking good!!!!! Keep it goin'!!! Ain't no stoppin' us now!!!
YA GOTTA BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's quite quiet in my house tonight ...
Robby Canooooooooooooooo bay-bee!!!!!!!!
Love my mother-in-law ... she is making Boo's Halloween costume! He wants to be a bowling pin, which is not easily found in a child's size. And last I checked, my name is not Martha Stewart.
Seems as if 90% of my Friends' FB statuses tonight are about being sick (either them or their kids). Hope everyone is feeling better soon!
No. No, no, no. I am not getting sick. I am in denial about my headache, tiredness, and chills. Not. Getting. Sick. Going to bed soon and hoping this is nothing more than a really long (but good) day today.
"You should never be satisfied with where you are in your personal quest." - Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Brad Lidge.
Watching the game with my three favorite Yankees fans.
Regardless of who you're rooting for in this Series, this rendition of "God Bless America" in New York City is probably one of the most powerful things I've ever heard.
It's the "Annual Fall Harvest Festival Parade," Charlie Brown! (Apparently, it is no longer politically correct for 2nd graders to call their school event this afternoon a Halloween parade.)
You know it's a good Halloween parade when the Fire Dept shows up - and they're not in costume, and it's not a false alarm. Apparently, a certain teacher (that would be my son's) got too much into the spirit of things, cranked the smoke machine up to make the room spooky, setting off the fire alarm ... 5 mins after 650 children just paraded 1.5 miles and were back settled in their seats! Good times, good times!
Black cats really ARE bad luck ... especially when they wake you up at 4 a.H on a Saturday. Happy Halloween everyone!
Great trick-or-treating! Lots of trick or treaters and we did our whole neighborhood without any rain! Now ... will the Yankees or Phillies get tricked tonight?
Let the novel writing begin ... it's NaNoWriMo time!
is in search of "fake muscles" for Boo. He plays Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, and as part of his costume, my assignment this week is to find fake muscles. Anyone have a superhero-type kids costume w/ muscles leftover that won't be needed again?
To my Phillies fans Friends (if I have any left): don't worry, I won't be watching the game tonight. Am at 3,713 words (that's only about 12 pages, ugh ...) and want to get to at least 5,000 today, if not more. No game for me!
Continuing with the same strategy as I've had for the past 3 World Series games: I'm not watching. Writing instead. (Total word count: 5,009.)
Will this be the night ... that the novel reaches 8,000 words (25 pages)?
Congrats, Phillies, on a great season ... HK would have been proud.
It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year ... the Eggnog Latte is back at Starbucks!! Yeah, baby. Where's my IV?
Novel update: We've reached 10,000 words! (10,021 to be precise, but who's counting? Oh, right, that would be me.) Excerpt on my blog, if interested in checking it out.
Wishing my beautiful niece and goddaughter a very happy 4th birthday! Love you my sweet girl!
Every day this month until Thanksgiving, think of one thing that you are thankful for & post it as your status. "Today I am thankful for..." The longer you do it, the more you have to think about! Now if you think you can do it then repost this message as your status to invite others to take the challenge, then post what YOU are thankful for today.
Today I am thankful for ... um ... well ... I'm thankful that tomorrow is a new day. And that I have friends who understand the life of a special needs parent ...
Today, I am thankful that my kids have (thus far) inherited my husband's teeth. In 40 years, he's had one cavity while I've spent most of my 40 years in the dentist's chair.
Now this is frightening (from Facebook): "Melissa, you may have 40 new relatives!" What the hell, did I win the lottery and someone forgot to tell me? Otherwise, I'm happy with the relatives I have, thank you very much.
Today I am thankful to all the veterans who have served our country, those still serving & those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, so that we may enjoy the freedoms we have. Happy Veterans Day!
When a tooth just falls out of your mouth while eating breakfast and your dentist office is closed, you know your day is gonna be a doozy. Thankfully, this is just a crown needing to be re-cemented, but I still don't relish the idea of looking like a jack-o-lantern.
Wondering if the Tooth Fairy will visit me tonight because of my tooth that fell out this morning? If so, a few grand would be nice to find under my pillow, 'kay?
Today I am thankful for all those who mentored me, in so many ways, and taught me so much. In the words of John Lennon, "some are dead and some are living, in my life, I loved them all."
So very proud of my Boo, who was in two back-to-back performances of "Beauty & the Beast" today. He plays Gaston and was GREAT! Also grateful to our very good friends who drove 2 hours to see him in the production. Two shows down, 3 to go ....
Just finished watching another great performance by the "Beauty & the Beast" cast. Next up, a trip to a pizzeria later this afternoon with Girl Scouts. Betty's troop is learning how to make a pizza and will be baking their own. I'm counting on this for dinner.
Today I am thankful for my book blogger friends. I just finished my 49th book for the year and many of them have been ones I would never have known about if it wasn't for book bloggers.
Looks like the Tooth Fairy will be making a visit to our house this evening. (Thankfully, for Boo this time. Not me.)
Betty, age almost 8: "Mommy, are you really writing a book?" me: "Yes, I am." Betty: "But are you writing a REAL book?" Well ... that remains to be seen, now, doesn't it? There are days I wonder about that myself.
So, a do-it-yourself appliance parts company wants to advertise on my blog. For monetary compensation. Those of you who know me will find it amusing (as do I) that I am so very much the opposite of Ms. Fix-It. (For the blog readers, don't think of me as a sell-out for doing this, if I do. Two 8-year olds do not come cheap.)
Looking forward to a fun (but busy) 8th birthday weekend with Boo's play performances on Sat. and Sun. and visits from family.
LOVES this new Verizon commercial with the Misfit Toys. It makes me laugh every time it comes on.
"In ten more years, Mommy is going to be 50!" Who taught my kids how to add?
Today I am thankful for the person who invented the Wii ... and for my mom who bought the kids one for their birthday ... and for the relatives who drove 2 hrs. each way today to see Boo's play and celebrate their birthdays.
Happy 8th Birthday to Betty and Boo, our Thanksgiving twins!
is getting ready for back-to-back parent-teacher conferences and a very busy day ahead.
"And I've got all that I'm allowed, it'll do for me, I'm thankful now / the walls get higher every day,the barriers get in the way/ But I see hope in every cloud, And I'm thankful, thankful, I'm thankful, So thankful, I'm thankful, I've got all that I'm allowed.~ Elton John, "All That I'm Allowed"
is in a friendly competition with her husband to see which one of our messages to Dave Roberts will show up first on the Thanksgiving parade.
Just came back from Wal-Mart. I know, on Thanksgiving afternoon. (It was surprisingly peaceful and empty.) The three others in this house were demanding things like gravy, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie with their meal and I hadn't bought any.
"Thou that hast given so much to me / Give one thing more /a grateful heart." ~ George Herbert, 17th century poet
Heading out to the mall (God help me) for the promised and much-anticipated Girls Shopping Day with Betty.
Had a great day with Betty at the mall! (The new two-story Barnes & Noble is heaven!) Did our part to jump-start the economy by buying gifts for 4 people on our holiday list AND books, makeup, candles, and lunch for ourselves.
"Mommy, why are all the cheerleaders showing their belly buttons?" - Boo, age 8.
thinks she will need to visit Starbucks tomorrow (as if one needs a reason). It is World AIDS Day, and Starbucks will be donating 5 cents from every handcrafted beverage to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa.
really has a problem with the use of the term "the short bus." Simply put, it's not funny.
Nothing worse than coming home at 7:30 p.m. only to find no Internet access ... ugh. Thankfully, it seems to have fixed itself!
In the midst of a crazy, stressful day, this happens: "I can't believe people donated so much food for us. This is too much ... what a wonderful blessing." Exact words. And this is why I do what I do.
So, I'm taking an informal poll (and writing a blog post): for FB friends who you chat with and exchange kids' photos with on a daily/regular basis, is it socially acceptable to forego sending a snail-mailed holiday card, given the economic and environmental contraints? Discuss.
Speaking engagement at my former church this morning AND a stop at Wegmans afterwards!
is exhausted after a good (but long) day ...
Child in tears tonight because of "homework" assignment for tomorrow: "dress like someone in your class." ("I DON'T WANT TO LOOK LIKE SOMEONE ELSE!" she says.) How is this contributing to one's learning? Or self-esteem?
Heater broken for the second time THIS WEEK ... arrrggghhh!!!! (This house is only 2 years old and this crap shouldn't be happening.) Any of my friends have a husband/signif other in the heating business? Because clearly the one we are using is incompetent.
Oh, lucky, lucky me. Note came home from Boo's teacher informing me that it is my random turn (along with 4 other parents) to organize the class holiday party on 12/22 at 2 p.m. Hello ... SOME PEOPLE WORK FULL FREAKIN' TIME, TWO HOURS AWAY.
Betty is playing Club Penguin. Anyone else's kids on this, too?
Tamale pie cooking in the crockpot this afternoon!
Hoping that this week of commuting is better than last. Every day last week included at least a 3 hour ride to work ... each way.
will be taking advantage of some sales and purchasing herself a new Smartphone/Blackberry/iphone of some kind to replace her dinosaur of a cell phone. Any thoughts/recommendations? AT&T or Verizon?
So excited ... just bought myself a BlackBerry Curve tonight! I feel like I've officially entered the modern age. Have a new cell phone number too.
at supermkt now - I mean, the zoo
is finishing up some Christmas shopping from the comfort of home.
Now THIS is the proper way to do a blizzard. A Saturday, no place to be, grocery shopping done, books to be read ... it's all good.
Just got The Call from school - no school tomorrow!
REALLY needs someone with a snowplow.
Wonders if she will have any vacation days left by the summer? Schools are CLOSED AGAIN FOR TUESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
has cabin fever, a still-unplowed driveway with a stuck car (mine) in the garage, two kids home for Day 2 of what has now become a 14 day break from school, and now, a head cold of the sneezing and runny nose variety.
is saying goodbye to a dear friend's Dad, a family I've known since I was 5. Can't be there in person today, but am very much with you in spirit ....
is thrilled to have survived the craziness that was Walmart this morning. (At 10:30 a.m., it actually wasn't as bad as I thought, considering it is Christmas Eve.)
is watching "It's a Wonderful Life" ... our Christmas Eve tradition.
Merry Christmas to our friends and family! love you all!
Heading home now - great christmas w/ family today
wondering why my photos taken today on blkberry didn't post?
is very proud of herself ... all photos from this holiday season are now digitally scrapbooked!
an early bedtime for me ... back to work tomorrow after an unexpected week off. This break was very nice (reminders of when I worked in higher ed and had Christmas break off with pay) but it will be nice getting back to normal ... and seeing my wonderful coworkers!
"The world is not like the sixties. The whole map’s changed. And we’re goin’ into an unknown future, but we’re still all here. We still...while there’s life there’s hope ....” ~ (John Lennon, December 8, 1980)
How did it get to be 1 a.m.? I think I'm becoming an insomniac ....
Just what we need ... more snow. Arrgghhh!
"I think this lady writes really good books," - Betty, while reading her first Judy Blume book ("Friend or Fiend?" - which is part of The Pain and the Great One series).
Anyone here been out and about driving today? How are the roads? Just found out we are getting somewhat unexpected company for New Years - glad I took a vacation day because this house is a disaster beyond imagination and grocery shopping needs to happen SOON.
Anyone want to take a guess how many books I read in 2009? The winner gets ... um ... well, a Piece of Flair. (We may be in a new year, but we're still in a recession.)
Happy New Year, everyone! Wishing you and your loved ones a happy and healthy 2010!
