Are you a book blogger who is wishing you could go to the first-ever Book Blogger Convention on May 28 in New York ... but don't have the funds to do so?  Well, the amazing folks who are organizing this event are giving away a free registration to a lucky book blogger and Lenore (of Presenting Lenore) is donating $50 toward travel expenses for you to get there!  Details are here.  (But you only have until May 15 to enter.) I'm really looking forward to this (and I love my new boss because even though I will only have been at my new job for 3 weeks by then, he is encouraging me to go "because we all need to have a life outside of work.")

Spare Candy explains (very clearly, as always) the Wal-Mart sex discrimination case and ways to advocate for fair and equal pay.

A passionate post from Chris (Stuff as Dreams Are Made On) about the many effects of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the heartbreak of his city.

And another one about the oil spill disaster, this one from Velveteen Mind who writes of Widow's Walks and Lighthouses.

I linked previously to a post about Girl with Pen blogger Alison Piepmeier's writing about a newly-discovered brain tumor and her upcoming surgery ... and was delighted to read this update from Alison about her recovery, and the lessons learned in the process.   Continued good thoughts and best wishes, Alison!
