Challenge Completed: Fearless Poetry (and Best Poetry Read in 2010)

Truth be told, I felt like a bit of an imposter with the Fearless Poetry Challenge hosted by Serena of Savvy Verse and Wit. I really enjoy reading poetry (it's the reviewing of such that intimidates me) and since I read five collections in 2010, chances were pretty good that I would read at least one in 2011.

Which I did, as my first book read this year (and my third).

Picnic, Lightning, by Billy Collins

I just finished reading The Secret Life of Emily Dickinson by Jerome Charyn, which I absolutely loved and which made me want to read some of  her poetry. I confess I haven't read all that much Emily Dickinson, so I turned to one of the free downloads on my new Kindle.

(This one qualifies for the E-Reader challenge too!)

So, finishing this challenge kind of feels like cheating ... but damn, it is a nice feeling to have finished the first week of the new year with one challenge already completed.  Gives one hope, you know?

If you're taking the Fearless Poetry challenge (or just want to read more poetry - in which case, you SHOULD be taking the Fearless Poetry Challenge because seriously, it's only ONE BOOK), might I suggest one or more of the following?  I enjoyed all of the poetry collections I read in 2010, and since I didn't do a wrap-up post of them, I thought this would be a good time to do so.  Links take you to my reviews.

Poems from the Women's Movement, edited by Honor Moore

Unincorporated Poems in the Late Honda Dynasty, by Tony Hoagland

Thanks, Serena, for hosting such a fun challenge!

Melissa: Thanks so much for such a great post. I'm so glad you completed the challenge so early, but please feel free to continue posting your review links for any poetry in my Challenge's mr. linky.

I'm so glad that you joined. Let's hope you've inspired others to join.
