hope, delivered

it happens like this:

after you sign permission slips 8 minutes before you're due at the bus stop and

after the nonstop fighting and ihatehimiwishhewasneverbornimsorunningaway and

after the cancer and the kisses and

after the exhaust from the bus disappears round the corner

only then

you notice this

and this

and you remember albert camus from college

and his invincible summer in the midst of winter

and having the courage to sprout when it would be easier to remain frozen

and you notice

the undeniable proof that hope exists here

in february

on your front steps

just beyond your door
